Kimchi 김치 Museum











Museum in Seoul, Korea is a museum whose mission, since 1986 is promoting and educating visitors about Kimchi.
The small museum is located inside the COEX shopping mall...









The museum showcases the history of Kimchi and exhibits many ingredients and kimchi recipes. Other displays explain Kimchi's health benefits and models of fermentation proceses.
Media rooms educate, those interested in Kimchi, on computers with video on Korea's national staple food.
For the real fanatic, the Kimchi field room offers classes on makin Kimchii...

The museum is divided into three different sections.
(*) The first part of the museum concentrates on kimchi's history.
In the first section, "The Exhibition of Ancient Books about Kimchi History", visitors can see the old publications relevant to kimchi history. Via the detailed timeline, visitors learn the long history of Kimchi in Korea.
(*) The second wing of the Kimchi Field Museum features the varied porcesses of making kimching. There you'll find short films anda audio on the subject. The walls are covered in illustrations and recipes.
A couple of areas offer the opportunity to take pictures of kimchi. It is in these areas that one learns more about the health benefits of kimchi.
(*) The third part is the data room. Both ancient and current publications of Kimchi and Korean foods in general.






















The museum includes displays of historic cooking utensils, a variety of kimchi, and other materials related to making, storing and eating kimchi.
And the museum include a special highlight about Kimjang, preparing kimchi in a special way for winter.
Data on fermentation and the beneficial effects of kimchi are also on display in this museum. The library, tasting room, and kimchi shop are also helpful to helping to understand about kimchi.










Exhibitions :
- History of Kimchi
This section shows the origin and history of kimchi. Models, books, paintings and jars used throughout Korea's history are on display.
- Types of Kimchi
Visitors can see what kinds of kimchi were eaten in palaces and temples and learn how different seasonal and regioal kimchi types developed.
- Making and Storing Kimchi
Visitors learn about the main ingredients used in making different types of kimchi. The room also can see how people store kimchi - sheds, jars, and other containers are on display.
- Nutritional Effects of Kimchi
Several documents describe the beneficial effects of kimchi on digestion and other parts of the human body. Visitors can learn about the fermentation of kimchi and its characteristics through a microscope.
